while we believe the signature, title and date are in the artist's hand [possibly written at a later date], according to our research the artist set off for Europe in September of 1912 with fellow student Henrietta Mabel May and went on numerous sketching excursions together. see p. 22 in Emily Coonan by Karen Antaki.
